Casey has lived on Hatteras Island most of her life. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Appalachian State University, she returned home and married local pro surfer Brett Barley. She loves raising and homeschooling their two kids on the island. Casey and Brett have both spent a lot of time at Surf Hatteras over the years, since Brett has often been a “special guest” surf instructor (and the Byrd and Barley kids are best friends!). Casey is stoked to officially join the Surf Hatteras team. She also works part time for a local non-profit, Hatteras Youth, which supports the educational needs of kids on Hatteras Island.
